WorkLens is a mobile app that logs work time in one tap and visualises it by category, by day and by task. It offers more than five analytics views including a Pareto chart, and records offline even where the signal is poor.
A logging experience that lasts, offline support and a rich set of analytics charts — the axes needed to turn gut-feel work time into data-driven improvement, built in-house from scratch in 5 months. This is the story of that launch.
Everyone working on site or in the office logs their own hours easily and can look back at where the time went — that is the visibility into working life they are pursuing. Lowering the barrier to logging, so it lasts, is where the value starts.
Turning work time — usually discussed by gut feel — into data that drives improvement is the core of it. It records even where the signal is poor and syncs automatically afterwards: an analytics foundation letting individuals and teams see objectively how time is spent.
None of these were questions of technology choice; they were business problems tied directly to sustained logging, practicality in the field and analytical value. A design satisfying all of them at once had to be built from scratch.
When entry is a chore, Logging does not last, , no data accumulates at all. The number of taps has to be minimal.
Assuming a connection, Missed entries happens. A mechanism that saves reliably offline and syncs later is needed.
Rows of numbers alone behaviour does not change. Visualisations such as a Pareto chart are needed to reveal where to improve.
Building iOS and Android separately, Cost & variance grows. A design covering both from one codebase is needed.
