PawMedia Inc., a leading domestic player driving the pet space.

PawMedia Inc. is a business dedicated to building communities for pet lovers. To enrich life with pets, it aims to provide a place where owners can share daily life, connect, and support one another.

At its core was PawLive, a pet-focused SNS x live-streaming app. The vision was to unify posts, follows, and comment-based interaction with real-time live streaming and coin-tipping support and monetization - all in one app.

Design challenges to solve

The four structural requirements the platform had to meet.

None of these were mere technology choices - they were business requirements tied directly to user experience, streaming quality, profitability, and community health. Building anew from scratch demanded a design that makes them all hold true at once.

Can a pet-focused interaction experience be established?
Existing general-purpose SNS aren't optimized for pets.Profile, category & region must be designed around pets, or an experience of connecting casually won't emerge.
Can live streaming be delivered with low latency?
If Latency or stutter arises in the stream, the real-time value of interaction is lost. A low-latency streaming mechanism must be built in from the foundation.
Can streamer monetization be achieved?
Without a mechanism for support and monetization, streamers can't keep going.Coin tipping and its economy must be designed in-house, or a streaming culture won't take root.
Can a healthy community be maintained?
Get reporting and blocking wrong, and inappropriate use spreads, eroding trust.Safety & security operations must be woven in from the start.
